• to walk a little, to take small steps;

It represents the action of walking slowly or a short distance.

Etymology

The character 彳 was described in the Shuowen Jiezi (説文解字 shuōwén jiězì) as a pictogram representing three parts of a person’s leg lined up side by side.

However, in oracle bone script, it originally represented only the left half of the character 行 (meaning “to walk” or “to go”), which depicts a crossroads.

Usage in Korean

It is often used as a radical in other characters related to movement or walking.

Additional notes

In Korean traditional music (국악), 彳 is used as a notation attached to musical notes to indicate the note two octaves below (-2 octave).
