Derived characters

While several characters refer to spears or similar weapons—such as:

(모): a weapon with a long shaft and a sharp blade, suitable for both thrusting and slashing;

戈 (과): a weapon where the blade extends sideways, not straight forward. It was used in ancient chariot warfare, especially to hook or slash enemies;

(창): a spear with a long pole and a pointed metal tip, optimized for thrusting;

Eventually, by the Han dynasty, a new type of weapon called (geuk) emerged, which combined features of the spear (/) and halberd (戈).
