Etymology

It is a phono-semantic compound, consisting of:

辵 (chwak/착, “to walk slowly, to go”) as the semantic element;

軍 (gun, ‘army’) as the phonetic element.

Usage in Korean

Originally it meant “to transport, to move,” but from this sense it extended to meanings like “fate, fortune, destiny,” as in 운수 (運數) and 운명 (運命).

운반 (運搬) – transportation, carrying;
