績

It is a phono-semantic compound, composed of:

糸 (silk, thread) – semantic element, indicating weaving and textiles;

Thus, the original sense was “to weave threads into cloth,” and from the careful work and results of weaving came the figurative meaning “results, achievements, merits.”

In modern Korean, 적 (績) is widely used in compounds relating to results, performance, or merits:

공적 (功績) – achievement, merit

실적 (實績) – actual results, record of performance

업적 (業績) – achievement, accomplishment

전적 (戰績) – military record, battle results

The older meaning of “weaving, spinning” is now largely confined to classical or historical contexts.
