校 is a phono-semantic compound composed of:

木 (나무 목) — semantic element, originally referring to wooden objects or instruments.

交 (사귈 교) — phonetic element, representing sound (jiào / xiào) and also meaning to cross or interact.

In the bronze inscriptions (金文 jinwen), 交 depicts crossed legs or limbs, symbolizing intersection or interaction.

Combined with 木, the earliest form likely referred to wooden shackles or a wooden device for binding the legs of criminals — hence the idea of restriction, alignment, and correction.
