• Canaan
(biblical and historical term) A geographic and theological term referring to the ancient land located in the eastern Mediterranean region, corresponding roughly to modern-day Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and parts of Jordan and Syria. In the Bible, Canaan is the land promised by God to Abraham and his descendants (Genesis 12:5–7). It became the destination of the Israelites after the Exodus from Egypt and symbolized the fulfillment of God’s covenant and promise.
