Etymology
Phono-semantic compound:
木 (tree, wood) – semantic, indicating support, structure, framework.
亟 (urgent, frequent, rapid) – phonetic element.
Original idea: “the utmost end or limit,” like the farthest support beam or boundary.
By extension, “extreme, ultimate, utmost.”
